Wike issued the challenge during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market road in Gwagwalada, Abuja. The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu.

Taking direct aim at David Mark, Wike questioned the former Senate President’s contributions to his home state of Benue during his eight years in office. He criticized Mark’s alleged failure to provide basic infrastructure, including accessible roads in his hometown of Otukpo.

“You were Senate President for eight years how did you impact the people of Benue State?” Wike asked. “How did you help Otukpo? Was it by flying a helicopter over bad roads?”

Wike also addressed recent comments by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who criticized Nigerian youths for their inaction and urged them to protest against the Tinubu administration.

Wike dismissed Amaechi’s remarks as hypocritical, challenging him to lead any protests with his own children “I challenge him if you want protest, come to Rivers with your children, not from London while using the masses,” he said.

He praised President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure, noting that the President had been commissioning FCT projects for 16 consecutive days despite opposition efforts to undermine his administration.

“I saw one of the coalition’s presidential aspirants on Politics Today, clearly upset by the administration’s achievements. They say Nigerians are angry well, Gwagwalada people, are you angry?” Wike asked the crowd.

Turning his attention to the ADC, Wike criticized the party’s leadership for forming a political coalition barely six months into President Tinubu’s term, accusing them of acting in bad faith.

“They claim the coalition started 18 months ago, but Tinubu had only been in office for six months. Why start ganging up so soon?” Wike questioned.

He pointed out that many of the coalition’s key figures had held powerful roles in past administrations, yet failed to bring meaningful development.

“David Mark was Senate President for eight years, Tambuwal was Speaker, and Amaechi was Minister of Transportation for eight years. What did they do to ease Nigerians’ suffering?”

He added, “Now you’re out of power and suddenly you say Nigerians are angry? No you’re angry because you want back into power. But that door is closed.”

Highlighting his own political battles, Wike recounted victories against influential opponents and federal interference over the years.

“In 2015, I defeated the candidate of a sitting governor. In 2019, a so-called super minister backed by Chinese loans couldn’t even secure 20 percent in the presidential poll I beat him.

In 2023, they supported someone who’s been switching parties since 1999. Now it’s 2025, and he’s in a new coalition. Is coalition your birthright?” Wike said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Wike concluded by emphasizing that the Gwagwalada road project was a….READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE
