21 church members battle for life as Jeep crashes into parade in Aba

Twenty-one members of United Evangelical Church, Abayi International, in Aba, Abia State have been rushed to the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, after a fast moving Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle crashed into their road parade.

The incident, which happened on Thursday along Aba-Owerri road at about 6 pm, took place when the women and some members of the church’s Boys Brigade band were doing a sensitisation road walk about International Women’s Day Celebration.

The accident, which brought the sensitisation parade to an abrupt end, left 21 members of the church in danger.

DAILY POST learnt that many of the victims, including a pregnant woman, suffered broken legs, hands, head injuries, while some others suffered other forms of internal injuries.

The pastor in charge of the church, Nnamdi Kelvin, who was weeping inside the hospital about the incident, said that the members were hit by the vehicle from behind, describing the incident as reckless and terrible.

Meanwhile, some of the injured persons who spoke in deep pain, appealed to the Abia State government to save their lives by providing financial help to enable them receive the needed medical help.

Four other victims have been rushed to an undisclosed private hospital by their relatives.

The driver of the Jeep, who allegedly blamed the accident on brake failure, has been arrested and handed over to the World Bank Police station, Abayi.
