Two men, Adeniyi Elijah, 26, and Abdullah Rasheed, 19, have been arrested by operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State for attempted kidnapping.

Confirming the arrests on Friday, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, rtd, revealed that both men were arrested on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Ogidan Grammar School, and Nawarudeen Grammar School, Oke-Baale, Osogbo, Osun State, at 1350hrs.
He said, “The men of Amotekun were called by the residents of the areas after noticing unfamiliar faces in their environment. The operatives of Amotekun swung into action immediately and arrested the suspects in the school premises.
“The suspected kidnappers were arrested while disguised as commercial motorcyclists.”
Adewinmbi, who said the kidnappers were using different techniques to kidnap their victims, urged the residents of the state to be vigilant.
“They often come disguised as innocent people whereas they are notorious criminals.”
He also disclosed that upon conclusion of investigation, the security outfit came to the conclusion that the suspects have a skeleton in their cupboard as they refused to confess their mission within the school premises during school hours, where they were arrested.
He added that the suspects have been transferred to the Police! Anti-Kidnapping Unit for subsequent interrogation and prosecution.
The suspects have however denied being kidnappers.
Adeniyi Elijah said he brought his mother to Osogbo to take care of a new born baby delivered by his elder brother’s wife.
“I only used the opportunity to use my motorcycle to carry passengers so that I can gather some money before going back to Masifa where I live.
“I was tired after conveying some passengers and I was relaxing under a tree at Nawarudeen Grammar School premises when the residents of the area raised alarm and accused me of being a kidnapper and the Amotekun was invited to arrest me.”
Abdullah Rasheed Abubakar said he was a commercial motorcyclist and on Tuesday, he and about 20 people were at Ogidan Grammar School when the men of Amotekun came but on sighting them, the others all ran away.
“On Wednesday I was relaxing on my motorcycle at Ogidan Grammar School premises when the operatives of Amotekun showed up and I was arrested for attempted kidnapping.”
DAILY POST recalled that last week, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke had raised the alarm over an alleged plot to kidnap pupils and students in schools in the state.
