Sharon Adenikan, a storekeeper working in Ikeja, told FIJ that she braved the rain for about two hours without an umbrella before she found a bus to convey her to work.

FIJ met Adenikan in a queue at Egbeda Busstop, where she was awaiting a bus en route to Ikeja under the downpour.

“I regret coming outside today, even though I did it because I had to go to work. We have waited in this queue for over one hour now, and it is not my turn yet,” Adenikan lamented.

“My boss is still expecting me but I am already very late for work. I have told him that there are no buses because of the rain.”

The queue had over 40 people in it. FIJ waited with Adenikan for another 50 minutes before she reached the head of the queue and got on the next bus.

Another commuter in the same queue told FIJ that he did not think the rain had caused such mayhem until he got close to Egbeda.

“The road was terribly flooded for the rain I thought was moderate,” he said.

There were varying levels of flooding around the Egbeda area of Lagos. FIJ observed that some cars approaching Egbeda from Isheri had to maintain only one lane because the entire road was flooded.

Floodwater submerged the road so much that it concealed the gutter and pedestrian walkway.

Another Lagos resident shared a clip of flooding which forced traffic to just one side of their road.
