JUST IN: Senate and House of Representatives Cancel Breaks, Call for Immediate Meeting in Response to Intensifying Nationwide Protests

This development came as plans by youths to hit the street in a widely anticipated nationwide protest hits up. There have been calls for the youths t suspend the protest but they insisted that it must go on as planned kicking of on the 1st of August, 2024.

Meanwhile, according to a statement from House of Representatives Spokesperson, Rotimi Akin, this session will address urgent matters requiring immediate legislative action.

The House of Representatives, following Speaker Abbas Tajudeen’s directive, has scheduled a plenary session for July 31, 2024. Members have been called back from their constituencies for this important meeting, as communicated in an internal memo from the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, on Sunday.

The House, which began its annual recess on July 23, 2024, uses this period for members to engage with their constituencies and gather public input. However, it is customary for the House to reconvene during recess to address pressing national issues. The forthcoming session will focus on such critical matters, and Honourable Members are expected to ensure their presence.

The Senate, directed by President Godswill Obot Akpabio, will hold an emergency plenary session at noon on Wednesday, as stated in a memo from Clerk Francis Akubueze. Senators are required to attend to address crucial national matters.
