The couple were staying at a beach side guesthouse in the fishing village of Praia do Cumbuco in the north of the country before tragedy struck.

A gunman burst into the hotel on Monday, demanding cash from the Brit and his girlfriend in what turned into a deadly confrontation.

The couple, who have not been named, were carrying around £4,154 which the gunman was allegedly aware of, local media reports.

CCTV footage shows the crash-helmet thug run up to the couple and grab onto the girlfriend.

The Brit man then intervenes, pulling her back before the gunman holds up the weapon at eye level – to which he ducks.

The couple manage to keep hold of their things and bravely try to fight off the armed mugger.

They become locked in a three-way struggle and tumble around in the garden for a few seconds.

The girlfriend proceeds to get thrown to the floor while the Brit man runs to the other side of the garden – but the gunman stalks closely behind him.

He then runs back to his girlfriend and the three of them are out of the picture.

It’s believed the gunman then opens fire before bolting out the front door empty-handed.

In a state of terror and shock, the woman behind the reception desk runs off with her child to get help.

Reports say the gunman had someone outside who fled him from the deadly site.

The girlfriend reportedly died on the spot while the Brit boyfriend was injured.

He was rushed to hospital but there have been no local media updates on his condition.

Police are hunting the gunman and the accomplice who helped him escape the scene.

The Secretary of Public Security and Social Defence stated that four different murder squads are investigating the killing, like the Tourist Protection Delegation and the State Police Homicide Unit.

A FCDO Spokesperson said: “We are assisting the family of a British man who has been hospitalised in Brazil and are in contact with the local authorities.”

It comes after, further down south in Brazil, a neighbour was shot dead after poking his head over the wall.

Bruno Emídio da Silva Junior, 33, and his partner were holding a party at their home when they thought they heard gunshots coming from next door.

Curious, Bruno looked over the wall to see what was going on, unaware these would be his final moments alive.

Distressing CCTV footage shows Bruno standing on an outside table to peer over the wall as his partner looks on.

He suddenly goes limp and falls backward off the table, hitting the wall behind him and crashing to the ground.

His shocked partner goes to his aid and calls for help.

Bruno died before the emergency services arrived on the scene.
