Shops, fuel stations, and malls remain closed, while major and inter-state roads are eerily empty.

Some residents explained that they opted to stay indoors to avoid potential violence from security forces, noting that the sit-at-home protest has become a preferred form of demonstration in the South East region.

We are doing sit-at-home for our own protest since the government and security agencies want to use the protest against residents,” a resident, who identified himself as Okechi Michael said.

You can see that only a handful of vehicles are on the road despite the security agents patrolling roads. If I am staying in my house, will they force me to come out? That’s is the situation here.”
