Chelsea have been busy once again in the summer transfer window, with eight new faces having already come through the door at Stamford Bridge.

The majority of incoming have been young talents for the future, but with a striker still a target for Enzo Maresca, Osimhen’s name has popped up once again.

With former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte keen on bringing Romelu Lukaku to Napoli, a deal involving Osimhen heading to west London could take place – potentially on a season-long loan with the option to buy. The 25-year-old striker was scored 76 goals in four seasons for Napoli, with Paris Saint-Germain also interested in the Nigerian international.

So, if Chelsea signed Osimhen, what could happen? Let’s take a look.

Chelsea’s 2024/25 season simulated with Victor Osimhen
To set up this simulation, we used Football Manager 2024 to move Osimhen to Chelsea in the summer transfer window before simulating the 2024/25 season. This is what happened.

Despite Nicolas Jackson showing great promise last season, the striker received limited game time in the 2024/25 campaign, with Maresca opting to play Osimhen regularly in the lone striker role. At the end of the season, Osimhen has proven himself as a top striker in the Premier League with a more than respectable goal return.

In 47 appearances, Osimhen scored 23 goals, grabbing four assists and averaging a rating of 7.14 per game, but it wasn’t enough to end the season as the club’s top scorer, with Cole Palmer continuing his incredible form with 27 goals and seven assists.

Christopher Nkunku stayed fit to score 15 and assist 10, while Jackson still managed seven goals, despite starting just four times.

At the end of the 2024/25 season, Football Manager 2024 put together an overall best Chelsea XI, based on performances, statistics, and other metrics. This is what it looked like:

Full Chelsea best XI: (4-3-3): Petrovic; James, Disasi, Colwill, Chilwell; Lavia, Fernandez, Caicedo; Palmer, Osimhen, Nkunku.

Osimhen made the Chelsea best XI, joining Nkunku and Palmer in the front three. Maresca selected a defensive-looking midfield as Romeo Lavia joined Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, while Ben Chilwell beat Marc Cucurella to the left-back spot.

In their first season under Maresca, Chelsea weren’t blowing teams away left, right, and centre. The Blues were in and around the battle for Champions League spots all season long, but a poor end to the campaign saw Chelsea finish sixth in the table.

17 wins, 10 draws, and 11 losses saw the Blues end the season with 61 points, one point off Newcastle in fifth who gained automatic Champions League qualification. Despite finishing sixth, Chelsea still managed to earn a spot in next season’s Champions League, all thanks to their performance in the Europa League.

Maresca’s side didn’t lose or draw a game in their Europa League campaign, with Chelsea beating Manchester United 2-0 in the final thanks to goals from Palmer and Osimhen.

The Blues also won the FA Cup after beating West Ham United 1-0 in the final, but a surprising 6-1 defeat to Manchester City saw Chelsea knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the fourth round.
