Police raided the NLC headquarters last Wednesday, causing significant alarm within the labor community. The NLC condemned the police action in a statement following an emergency NEC meeting, dismissing the police’s explanation as an “afterthought.

The NEC demands an apology from the police and Federal Government for the recent invasion of the NLC headquarters. While the NLC, led by President Joe Ajaero, will exercise restraint, the government’s response will affect their future actions.

The police, in their defense, claimed that their operatives merely visited a bookstore within the 10-story building where the NLC occupies the top three floors, to arrest a foreign national. However, the NLC’s General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, countered this narrative, revealing that the police had forcibly entered the union’s offices during the raid.

This incident has sparked widespread criticism, with many viewing it as an attack on the rights and sanctity of the labor union. The NLC has made it clear that the government’s handling of this situation will determine its next steps in the coming days, leaving many to wonder how this standoff will be resolved.
