Initial speculation attributed the outage to a cyberattack by suspected Nigerian cybercriminals, colloquially known as “Yahoo Boys.” This was fueled by recent threats from internet fraudsters who had vowed to target the EFCC in response to the agency’s crackdown on suspicious online activities.
