According to a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the illegal trade of arms, admitting they have been supplying these weapons to bandits terrorizing the area.

In a separate operation, police operatives also arrested a 35-year-old man named Abubakar Yahuza.

Yahuza is believed to be an informant for kidnappers operating within the Gidan Dogo Forest.

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the officers involved in these operations and urged the public to continue providing the police with information that could help in maintaining security.

The statement further detailed the incidents, noting that on August 14, around 18:00 hours, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted the two suspects at Madaci village in Zaria. The suspects were found in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle.

During interrogation, they admitted to their role in supplying arms to bandits in the region, offering critical leads that are aiding ongoing investigations to identify and apprehend their accomplices.

Additionally, on August 18, around 06:30 hours, officers from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) stationed in Kuriga responded to gunfire reported on the outskirts of a village. Upon arrival, they encountered two armed men on motorcycles attempting to abduct two farmers.

A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the bandits to flee and abandon their captives.

The victims, who sustained head injuries inflicted by the attackers, were treated at Kuriga Primary Health Care Centre and have since been discharged.
