The protest, driven by the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) price hike—reportedly as high as N1,200 at some filling stations—saw hundreds of tricycle operators take to the streets.
The demonstrators gathered around the Dangi bridge, causing a temporary traffic disruption.
Abdulazeez Ibrahim, a frustrated tricyclist, reminisced about the days when petrol was sold for N95 and even reduced to N65 during President Shehu Musa Yar’adua’s tenure.
He lamented that prices in Nigeria only seem to increase, making it harder for people to survive.
As many tricycle operators joined the protest, passengers were left stranded, with some complaining about the steep rise in transport fares. Ramatu Aminu, a passenger, reported paying N300 for a journey that usually costs between N150 and N200.
The situation in Jigawa State is similarly dire, with petrol prices soaring to N1,350 in Dutse.
