According to the report by Daily Post on Thursday, residents are struggling to cope with the new prices, which have made commuting a daunting task.

Following the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) approval of a new pump price of N897 per litre, effective September 3, commercial tricycle operators have increased their fares significantly.

A check by newsmen revealed that fares for popular routes have risen by as much as 67%.

Residents expressed frustration and concern over the situation, with many decrying the additional financial burden.

Commercial motorcycle operators have also doubled their fares, further exacerbating the crisis.

Malam Abubakar Sa’idu, a commercial tricycle operator, attributed the fare hike to the challenges of accessing fuel at NNPC stations.

He noted that operators are forced to buy fuel from black markets at an exorbitant price of N1,400 per litre, making it difficult to maintain previous fare prices.

Sa’idu warned that fares may increase further in the coming days, citing the difficulty in accessing fuel and the resulting impact on their business.

He acknowledged that passengers are understanding of the situation, but noted that commuting has drastically dropped due to the economic hardship.
