The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, who announced the development in a statement he posted on his X handle on Wednesday morning, disclosed that the young men were arrested following cases of kidnapping reported at the state police command.

He gave the names of those arrested as Umaru Usman, from Mauree in Sokoto State; Tukur Yau, from Dawakinkudur in Kano State; Musbau Sabo, from Warsaw Local Government Area in Kano State; Abdul Ibrahim, from Sokoto State and Jubrin Idris, also from Sokoto State.

(Caption): The arrested kidnappers and items said to have been recovered from them, as posted by Adejobi on Wednesday.

He disclosed that they were arrested in Avu, Imo State, after being linked to kidnapping cases in Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas of Owerri, the state capital.

There were media reports about the activities of the kidnappers who engaged in abduction of residents along the above-mentioned areas close to the main gate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).

The situation also made the authorities of the institution to issue a memo from the Office of the Registrar, warning students about their movements and advising them not to move around the gate at 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m in order to avoid being abducted.
