According to Osifo, the DSS informed the union that Ajaero was being interrogated on undisclosed issues but failed to provide specific details about the reasons for his detention. “We don’t really know exactly the reason why he was arrested,” Osifo said. “When we made calls to the authorities, the DSS told us they were interrogating him on certain issues. We asked what the issues were, but they did not tell us. They did mention that Joe Ajaero would eventually be released, but our concern is, what is the issue that he is being arrested for?”

He noted that Ajaero had previously been questioned by the police over allegations of terrorism financing, yet no charges were ever pressed. “If there are issues, why are they not pressing charges?” Osifo questioned, adding that such ambiguity only deepens the frustration within the labor movement.
The TUC President condemned what he described as a lack of transparency in the authorities’ actions, emphasizing the need for openness and accountability. “You just picked someone and put him in custody without talking to Nigerians and without telling us what the issues are.
