These statements come amidst rising tensions from opposition parties, particularly the Edo chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has expressed concerns about Onuoha’s ties to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, whom he acknowledges as a cousin.

He emphasized that he underwent a thorough vetting process by the Senate prior to his appointment, stating that he was screened and confirmed before assuming office.
The PDP’s chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, has been vocal in his calls for Onuoha’s reassignment, fearing a conflict of interest that could undermine election integrity.
