Reports in England suggest that Chelsea’s new boss, Mauricio Pochettino, wants to pair Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the heart of the Blues midfield.

But Burley said the Reds could massively benefit from signing the 21-year-old Ecuador international.

The midfielder has predominantly been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.

Sky Sports reported yesterday that the west London side plan to make a formal approach to Brighton for the player once they finalise their massive sales.

According to CBS Sports, Caicedo could cost Chelsea up to £80 million in transfer fees and a further £10 million in add-ons, a fee the Blues have reportedly told the Seagulls they won’t be able to pay.

Mac Allister and Caicedo played together 47 times for Brighton last season.

Burley told ESPN, “Those two (Mac Allister and Caicedo) would be big. Age, 21, and the fact the way Brighton played, especially under De Zerbi, the possession of the ball was similar to Potter, but they got forward a lot quicker.

“That’s what Liverpool did, in their pomp. They moved it from back to front. Quickly and with more quality than anybody in Europe at one point. They would win it back, then bang, they were at the back four.”
