He warned that if the ongoing leadership crisis is not resolved, the APC might end up exerting control over critical decisions within the Labour Party, including selecting its 2027 presidential candidate.
This, he argued, would represent a significant loss of the party’s independence and ability to act in the best interests of its members and supporters.
He elaborated on the troubling dynamics at play, pointing to strategic maneuvers by the APC that, in his view, are aimed at weakening the Labour Party’s internal cohesion.
Okonkwo claimed that the APC is working behind the scenes to influence key figures within the Labour Party, which could ultimately enable them to shape the party’s future direction, including its leadership and election strategy.
Okonkwo further suggested that Julius Abure, as the embattled National Chairman, is losing support within the party. He questioned Abure’s legitimacy as chairman, noting that without the backing of his own party members, it is unclear whom Abure intends to lead or represent.
This, Okonkwo argued, leaves the party vulnerable to external manipulation, particularly by the APC.
He pointed to meetings between certain figures in the Labour Party and those with connections to influential individuals who assist in winning legal battles, implying that these interactions could be compromising the party’s integrity.
He emphasized that without addressing the leadership crisis and restoring unity, the party risks losing its autonomy and being manipulated by external forces, particularly the APC, in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential election.
In his remarks: “I can tell you that Labour Party as presently constituted is now a housemaid to APC. Being a housemaid to APC, the 2027 presidential candidate of Labour Party will be decided on the table of APC. Because we know their moves. They are meeting the people who help people to win cases in court.
