The election took place on Saturday at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat along the Osogbo/Ikirun road, with delegates from the Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti participating.

The election was observed by the acting National President of the Union, Aliyu Issa-Ore, who explained that the NURTW’s Constitution stipulates that the zone holding the national president’s position must elect its candidate.
Issa-Ore further confirmed that the Southwest zone had fully complied with this constitutional requirement in electing Akinsanya as President.
Alongside Akinsanya, Tajudeen Agbede was elected as Vice President for the Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was chosen as a Trustee from the zone.
Upon taking the oath of office, Akinsanya pledged to foster unity and peace within the Union.
He also extended forgiveness to those who may have wronged him and asked for forgiveness from those he may have offended.
