Since Gbadebo contested the 2023 election and lost, his detractors have capitalised on the fact that he bears an Igbo name, Chinedu.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to them, Gbadebo’s lack of fluency in the Yoruba language is because he leans more towards the Igbo ethnicity of his mother, Nkechi.
However, in an interview going viral on social media, his father went down memory lane to authenticate Gbadebo as a Yoruba man.
He said, “The only way I can authenticate Gbadebo’s situation is to give a timeline from when he was born till now to establish exactly where he was, at what time and what he was doing.
“I married his mother, Mrs Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour, on the 28th day of August 1982 at Port Harcourt. The next year Gbadebo was born at Ejire Memorial Medical Centre by Doctor Olurin.
“Immediately he was born, as it was our custom in the Yoruba race, I took him to my father who was Justice R.W Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour, and it was my father who gave him the name Gbadebo.
“In my custom, I the father cannot name my children as long as my father is alive. And so he gave Gbadebo the name.
“The Igbo name is given to him by my wife’s mother or herself. Patrick, his English name, was given to him by my mother who gave English names to all the children.
“Gbadebo got the name Gbadebo from my father and it is on every certificate. It is on the certificate at the hospital that he was born.
“When he went to school at three years old, he went to a reception at Chrisland School. He was entered in there as Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour. After Chrisland School, Gbadebo went to the University of Lagos Secondary School and was entered as Gbadebo. The documents are there to show.
“From there, he went to EAB in Paris where he finished secondary school and A-Levels. That was in 2001.
“From Paris, he went to the University of Nottingham where he got his first degree in Architecture in 2004. And then he went to MIT for his Masters in 2008. After his Masters, he came back to Nigeria.”
Despite the explanation from Rhodes-Vivour, some social media users still maintain their stance that Gbadebo is not a Yoruba man.
One X user, @SamuelI10540458, said, “Your son is not a Yoruba. He lacks Yoruba values.”
@Jonneto2 said, “You go explain tire. He grew up to secondary school level in Lagos and can’t speak Yoruba.”
@balogun_ag97551 said, “Ur son cannot speak your dialect but his mom’s dialect. Sorry to say this, it means u do not play father roles in his life.”
@rheedwon25 said, “Sorry to say baba, u did a terrible job of parenting on him. U don’t become a Yorùbá just by d name tag, it’s those inherent qualities that make one a true Yorùbá.”…..For More READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE ▶▶
