Upon his return to Lagos, Obasa was welcomed by members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including local government ward executives and key political stakeholders. Addressing journalists during the reception, Obasa described his impeachment as unconstitutional and vowed to challenge the process.

He stated, “To impeach a Speaker, the Constitution must be followed. I am not afraid of being removed, but it must be done legally. In the whole of Lagos State, let any leader come out to say I approached them with the ambition of becoming governor.”

Obasa drew comparisons to past impeachments in the House, emphasizing the adherence to due process in those instances. “When former Speaker Jokotade Pelumi and Deputy Speaker Funmi Tejuosho were removed, they were present in the House. Due process was followed, and there was no police involvement,” he said.

In contrast, Obasa accused the authorities of orchestrating an unlawful operation during his removal. “How can a multitude of police officers, led by the commissioner of police, invade the House? Another team even came to my residence, locking my children outside while my wife was inside. This is not how democracy works,” he lamented.

Reflecting on his tenure, Obasa stated, “I was Speaker for 10 years. If I am no longer wanted, I will accept Allah’s will. But you cannot impeach a Speaker with a fake mace.”

As the political tussle unfolds, Obasa’s comments highlight growing concerns over the legality and integrity of the impeachment process, signaling further challenges ahead for the Lagos State Assembly.READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>
