According to police reports, the tragic sequence of events began when Bello, a 30-year-old traveller, was journeying on his motorcycle from Kontagora to Rijau. At a security checkpoint, the vigilante members intercepted him and discovered N940,000 in his possession.

Instead of performing their supposed protective function, the vigilantes reportedly made a murderous decision. They shot Bello dead, transforming from community guardians to cold-blooded criminals in an instant.

When Bello’s family realized he was missing, they reported his disappearance to the Area Command. Diligent police investigations led to the discovery of his lifeless body in a bush near the vigilante’s security point.

During interrogation, Habibu Usman confessed to the crime, implicating another member, Lawal, who remains at large. The suspects reportedly provided additional information to police operatives, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other potential accomplices.
