Nyesom Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, became the chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State in 1999. He was in that position for about eight years....CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING.>>
He also was appointed or elected as the president of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON)—an umbrella body of all the 774 LGA chairmen in Nigeria.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! After that office, he became the chief of staff to the state government of Rivers State. Later, he was appointed a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2011. Lastly, and most importantly, he became the governor of Rivers State between 2015 and 2023.
This implies that Wike has never been out of political office or power since the advent of the Fourth Republic democratic dispensation, unlike even the president, Tinubu, who was out of political office between 2007 and 2023, albeit being a power broker from outside.
Providence gave Wike all the positions mentioned above on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Wike is not one of the founding fathers of the PDP.
However, he is obviously one of the luckiest beneficiaries of political offices under the platform of the PDP. Apart from those who became president of Nigeria on the platform of the PDP, no other current member of the party has benefitted from the party like Wike.
Wike is currently serving as a minister under the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He claims to still be a member of the PDP. He worked against his party in the last presidential election.
He publicly confessed to having done so and will still do so in 2027. He has boasted that he will support and work hard for the reelection of President Tinubu in 2027 against the PDP, of which he still claims to be a member.
Why is Wike prevaricating on the issue of defecting to the APC? Why has he not been courageous enough to defect to the APC since he has vowed to work for the party’s presidential candidate in 2027? Why is he still struggling for the soul of the PDP? Who struggles for the soul of a party that he or she doesn’t wish to win the presidential election?
What exactly does Wike want the PDP for? If the party hands him the presidential ticket as its candidate, does it mean that he will contest against the same APC presidential candidate that he has been campaigning vigorously for? Should the ticket be given to him, will he decline it in preference for the APC to win? What exactly does he want?
My hunch tells me that Wike was appointed as a minister to compensate him for the betrayal of his party in 2023. But that was not the major mandate.
From all indications, Wike’s mandate is to ensure that the PDP is continuously in crisis. His mandate is to ensure that the party is crippled politically in preparation for 2027.
When Wike boasted recently that he’s bigger than all the PDP governors put together, he knew the drummer in the bush was ready to mobilise him with trillions of naira if necessary when it comes to the issue of outspending the entire PDP governors. He wasn’t depending on the FCT budget or allocation.
Second, beyond the facade of development in the FCT, Wike’s mandate is to deliver the capital territory by fair or foul means to the APC in 2027. The party has never won the capital territory in previous elections. Therefore, Wike was carefully selected and appointed for that purpose.
The incoming council election for the FCT will bear clear, eloquent testimony to this assertion. Don’t forget that APC has never won all six councils in previous council elections, but that will change in the February council election under Wike as a precursor for 2027.
Finally, Wike’s mandate is also to deliver Rivers State to the APC in 2027. So, he seems to have been mandated to deliver two states—Rivers and the FCT—to the APC aside from his major mandate to incapacitate the PDP. But can Wike be in both states at the same time on Election Day?
Why Wike seems to want the death of the PDP that brought him to national prominence and fortune is beyond comprehension. Does he want PDP dead so that APC can rule forever? Wike seems to have forgotten that human beings make a party thick.
If Peter Obi alone could get over six million votes in the last presidential election, then imagine what will happen should all credible politicians build a coalition against the APC in 2027, PDP or no PDP.READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>
