During the ceremony, which took place at the Enugwu Civic Centre over the weekend, there were deliberate efforts by the monarch, chiefs, men and women, including the elderly to inculcate cultural revival and consciousness among the teeming youths of the community. The ceremony also witnessed the conferment of awards to some deserving members of the community.

This was just as the people of the community, led by the Chairman of Enugwu village, Adazi-Enu, Mr Jideofor Okongwu, declared January 1, every year as ‘Enugwu Village Day.’
Okongwu, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Anaocha Branch, assured the indigenes at home and in the diaspora of total commitment towards the peace, progress and development of the community.
He urged all sons and daughters of the community to always aspire to contribute their quota towards the peace, progress and development in the area, stressing that the restoration of peace, unity and security has become a top priority in the community, hence the need for the people in the Diaspora to come home to invest in the community.
He expressed optimism that the needed atmosphere has been created by boosting security for indigenes in the diaspora to always return home en masse during Yuletide and other celebrations.
He said, “Today, we are celebrating ‘Enugwu Day,’ and the focus is youth empowerment, cultural revival and community development. We are also using the opportunity to confer awards on some of our illustrious sons and daughters who have made the community proud.
The recipients have demonstrated outstanding excellence in their services, commitment and genuine concern for the people of the community.
“Also, we decided to solidify our local security by coming together to donate various sums of money to the cause. That is why we can celebrate today in peace and as you can see, our sons and daughters in the diaspora came home en masse for this celebration.
“Initially, insecurity made them shun coming home and it became a worrisome development, especially for the elders of the community, till we decided to fortify our security forces.
We are also calling on the state government for more assistance in the area of infrastructure and security, just as we are happy about the turnup of our people from the diaspora, we are assuring them that they are safe and secured whenever they return home.”
He listed some of the community’s achievements so far, including scholarship awards to indigent students, procurement of security vehicles and gadgets for their security operatives, as well as modernization of their daily market to allow the free flow of business activities in the area.
Among the recipients of the awards was the President-General of Adazi-Enu Town Union, and High Chief Chigozie Ejidike, who was honoured in recognition of his dynamic services and exceptional leadership as the town union leader.
Other recipients included Chief Bestman Anekwe, who got the outstanding excellence award as an ambassador of progress in recognition of his excellent services, commitment and genuine concern for the people of the community and his achievements as a captain of industries and trailblazer in oil and gas field; High Chief Marcel Okwuchukwu Ezeonyeodu, High Chief Joseph Chizuo, Chibuike Adaghudos Esq, a non-indigene, who was awarded in recognition of his selfless services, commitment, support, standing by the truth and his genuine concern for the progress of the community, just as Chief Nkeanyi Ezenwugo and Chief Chukwuneke Eze Kwonna got theirs as ambassadors of progress in recognition of their selfless services.
