Yakubu Dogara, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has revealed how Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), played a significant role in Bala Mohammed’s 2023 gubernatorial victory in Bauchi State....CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING.>>
Dogara made these remarks amid rising tensions between Wike and Mohammed, which stem from internal conflicts within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In a letter titled “Gov. Bala vs Wike: Let the truth be told,” he detailed how Wike not only secured Mohammed’s nomination but also provided crucial financial support for his campaign. He noted that Mohammed’s recent criticisms of Wike were unsurprising, citing his past tendencies toward ingratitude and betrayal.

He emphasized that remaining silent in the face of injustice would only allow it to persist. Reflecting on the 2018 PDP gubernatorial primaries, Dogara recalled how Wike stepped in to assist Mohammed, even before they had officially presented him as their preferred candidate.
Wike appointed his ally, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, to oversee the process and arranged for his travel via private jet. Despite Wike’s efforts, Dogara expressed surprise that he never sought anything in return, contradicting claims that he was a “transactional” politician.
Following Mohammed’s nomination, financial struggles arose, leading Dogara and his team to seek Wike’s help once again. They visited him in Port Harcourt without prior notice, and upon seeing them, Wike appeared distant, expressing frustration over past grievances with Mohammed.
He recalled how Mohammed had previously refused to allocate land to him and treated him poorly during their time as ministers. However, despite these issues, Wike still provided the financial backing needed for the campaign and arranged their return to Abuja via private jet.
Dogara emphasized that Wike’s continuous support, despite never demanding anything in return, challenged the perception that he operated solely on political transactions.
He remarked, “On arrival, we were ushered into Government House and asked to take our seats and wait for the governor who was still upstairs to join us shortly. As soon as Wike walked down the stairs to join us and saw Bala Mohammed, his visage changed and I noticed he was cold to me for the very first time.”
