Recall that the Glazer family are considering selling Man United as they “explore strategic alternatives”.

The Americans bought the Red Devils for £790million, which is equivalent to $1.34 billion in 2005.

The move to sell the Old Trafford outfit is coming after years of protest from fans against the Glazer family’s ownership of the club.

The race for the new owner of Man United had been between Ineos founder, Ratcliffe and Qatari banker, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.

However, Ferdinand has now revealed that some members of the Glazer family are holding up the takeover, with the Ratcliffe bid still not out of the running either.

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube show, Ferdinand said: “I think the big issue is when you are dealing with a group of people rather than an individual, it makes things very complex and difficult at times. You are not dealing with one individual with the Glazers – I think Jim Ratcliffe came out and said it.

“That has been the issue behind the scenes, I didn’t want to come out and say it, but you are dealing with siblings in the Glazer family who are there to make a collective decision.

“I don’t think one person can just make a decision on their own, so therefore that makes it very difficult to say yes immediately just like that [clicks fingers]. It is a process that they have to go through.”
