The 12-member PDP Governors Forum (PDP-GF), led by Governor Bala Mohammed, concluded their monthly meeting in Asaba, Delta State on Friday, with a decisive message aimed at the pro-Wike faction within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), headed by Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum.

The Forum reiterated its support for the Court of Appeal judgment and urged the NWC to implement the ruling effectively. The governors emphasized that the PDP should move beyond its internal divisions and focus on building a more cohesive and strong opposition ahead of future elections.
In addition, the Forum recommended that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for February, be postponed to March 13.
The governors explained that the delay would allow the NWC to finalize the necessary arrangements, including securing Ude-Okoye’s signature on documents for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signaling the new date.
The governors’ statement makes it clear that Ude-Okoye will be recognized as the National Secretary, despite resistance from Senator Samuel Anyanwu, a known Wike ally.
Anyanwu, who maintains he is still the National Secretary, dismissed the governors’ communique, stating, “I’m not perturbed about the communique issued by the governors.
The PDP-GF is one of several pressure groups in our party, and its members are not bigger than the Nigerian Constitution and the rulings of our courts. I remain the PDP National Secretary.”
This move comes just days after Anyanwu’s supporters forced Ude-Okoye out of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, expressing displeasure at his presence.
Ude-Okoye had been nominated by South-East stakeholders to replace Anyanwu when he became the PDP candidate for the 2023 Imo State governorship election. However, Anyanwu has argued that his position was not vacant, citing the party’s Constitution which does not require his resignation to contest the election.
As the internal battle continues, the PDP faces a critical moment in its history, with factions vying for control and the future direction of the party becoming ever more uncertain.
