The GAC, led by Pa Tajudeen Olusi, with President Bola Tinubu as a lifetime patron, is the apex decision-making organ of the APC in Lagos. Its decisions are binding on members, and the council has been instrumental in resolving party disputes in the past.

The meeting is expected to discuss the removal of Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Obasa was removed in absentia by 32 out of 40 members of the Assembly on January 13, 2025, over allegations of financial misappropriation, misconduct, and high-handedness. He was replaced by his erstwhile deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, as substantive Speaker.

However, the removal of Obasa has been met with conflicting reactions from members of the GAC, the party faithful, and the general public.

Some members of the GAC have disagreed over the process that led to Obasa’s removal, with Muraina Taiwo, a member of the GAC from Isolo Constituency, faulting the Assembly members for reconvening during recess to remove Obasa.

Other GAC members, Musiliu Obanikoro and Senator Anthony Adefuye have also expressed divergent views on the matter. While Adefuye claimed that Obasa was illegally removed, Obanikoro countered that Adefuye’s statement was “careless.”
