The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has refuted media claims alleging a herdsmen attack in the Wannune Community of Tarka Local Government Area in Benue State. The statement follows viral reports suggesting that several individuals were killed just two days after President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state for security deliberations.
According to a clarification issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the SGF, Terrence Kuanum, the incident being reported was actually the targeted killing of Mr. Aondoakaa Yaiyol. Yaiyol, a former PDP Chairman in Tarka and a commander in the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services, was murdered by unknown gunmen on Friday night. The SGF’s office emphasized that this was not a communal or herdsmen-related incident.
