Lagos State Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC), Comrade Ayoyinka Oni, has taken a swipe at the federal government over its public display of goodwill towards former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. Oni condemned the presidency’s decision to send birthday wishes to Bello, who remains a wanted figure by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N80 billion corruption scandal.
Speaking in an interview published by Independent Nigeria on June 22, 2025, Oni described the move as “shameful and disgraceful,” adding that it reflects a deeper rot within the Nigerian leadership. “How can the same government that claims to be fighting corruption be openly celebrating someone wanted for such a massive financial crime?” he asked.
Oni urged Nigerians to demand accountability from public officials and not allow partisan politics or selective justice to overshadow the fight against corruption. He further criticized the double standards in how the law is applied, stating that the public’s trust is being eroded by such displays.
