The ongoing civil war in Sudan, now in its third year since erupting on April 15, 2023, continues to devastate the nation, with over 11.3 million people displaced and a potential death toll exceeding 150,000, according to the former U.S. envoy. Senator Shehu Sani, a prominent Nigerian lawmaker, has urgently called for African leaders to intervene, stating on X, “The War in the Sudan continues. Thousands killed and wounded, and millions displaced to neighbouring countries. African leaders must step forward and compel the Government and the rebels to ceasefire.”

The conflict, pitting the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has created the world’s worst displacement crisis, with nearly three million refugees fleeing to unstable regions in Chad, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, overwhelming local resources.
