The deadly attack resulted in the death of a female relative and serious injury to his police escort.
According to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on July 2 at about 10:46 p.m., when the assailants reportedly stormed the compound and opened fire.
He stated that “During the attack, Inspector Walba Go Tom, a police officer from the Special Protection Unit Base 4, Makurdi, attached to the former minister, sustained gunshot wounds. His service rifle, an assault weapon with breach number, was taken away by the attackers.
“A female relative of the former minister was also hit by gunfire and later died while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialists Hospital in Jos. The police officer is currently hospitalized and responding to treatment.
“Community sources say the assailants fled the scene before help could arrive.”
