The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, criticized prominent political figures including the Interim National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark, the party’s Interim Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over their recent remarks suggesting widespread public dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

During his monthly media briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, Wike did not hold back, accusing the trio and the broader coalition they represent of hypocrisy and political opportunism.

He insisted that Nigerians’ current hardships were not the result of recent decisions alone but were caused by past failures of those now claiming to speak for the public.

Directing sharp criticism at David Mark, Wike questioned the former Senate President’s legacy, pointing out that Mark held the powerful legislative position for eight years without making significant impact, especially in his hometown of Otukpo.

“Now he says Nigerians are angry. Were they not angry when he was Senate President and delivered no major projects in his own constituency?” Wike asked rhetorically.

The FCT Minister also lambasted Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of contributing to Nigeria’s debt crisis during his tenure as Minister of Transportation. He suggested that the loans secured under Amaechi’s watch, particularly from China, plunged the country into deeper financial woes.

“When Amaechi was in charge and borrowing left and right, were Nigerians jumping for joy? But now they want to claim the people are angry,” he said.

He further dismissed the broader opposition rhetoric, arguing that claims of public anger seem to arise only when certain politicians are out of power.
