In an interview with AIT, Nwanyanwu said he was very close to Abiola at the time so he knows exactly who was involved in the June 12 struggle. He said former Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife was punished by the military government of General Sani Abacha for supporting June 12 struggle. He said there was an instance when Ezeife was on a plane to London, but Abacha ordered the plane back and sent him straight to prison.
