The judgment on the rape and assault of a 20 years-old female student of the Rivers State University, by a suspended lecturer of the same University, Professor David Ogbonna has been fixed for 25th of September, 2023.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Professor Ognonna was first arraigned by the Rivers State Police Command on the counts of rape and sexual assault of the student, who is in the Department of Micro-Biology in RSU, before the Rivers State government indicated interest to take over the prosecution of the matter.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offense which is said to be punishable under section 360 of the criminal code, CAP 37 of laws of Rivers State, Nigeria 1999.
Professor Ognonna was, however, granted bail.
When the matter came up for judgement on Thursday, parties were informed of the absence of the presiding Chief Magistrate, Poromon Menenen, who directed that the parties choose a new date for the hearing of the judgment.
The parties agreed to return on 25th of September, for judgement.
