The police in Ogun State have arrested a man said to be a member of a notorious motorcycle snatching syndicate.

Ogun police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, told newsmen that three suspects were intercepted “while attempting to pull off another heist on August 23, 2023, at approximately 18:30 hrs.”
The syndicate, Odutola said, comprised the trio of 28-year-old Wasiu Adebanjo, a resident of Malatori Area, Ogijo, Ogun State, along with Opeyemi Olatoye and John Awoniyi.
She confirmed that they were intercepted by members of the Volunteer Neighborhood Watch.
“Upon interception, Olatoye and Awoniyi fled the scene, armed with a short cutlass, while Adebanji, who was found in possession of another hidden short cutlass, was successfully apprehended,” Odutola explained.
According to her, the timely intervention of a police patrol team led by the Divisional Crime Officer prevented an impending mob action against the suspect.
“Two Bajaj motorcycles, suspected to be stolen, were successfully recovered from the residence of the arrested suspect,” the police public relations officer said, adding that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the syndicate.
“The suspects will face appropriate charges under the law upon conclusion of investigations,” she added.
