Abideen went missing on August 19, 2023, only for his corpse to be found in a soakaway eight days later with his vital organs missing. At the time of the incident, the boy was with his mother, Saudatu, 24, who was writing a test at the Green Herald College of Education, located around Games Village in the Bauchi Metropolis, when the incident occurred.

In the wake of the incident, Governor Bala Mohammed ordered the closure of the school.

Saidu, the father of the boy, in an interview with DAILY POST, said he is yet to recover from the incident.

According to him, the boy was his only son, born after three girls from his first wife.

His words: ” On August 19, I was called by my wife that our child had been declared missing at the College of Education where she is studying for her NCE programme. I was at the farm when I got the news.

“According to what my wife told me, she was writing a test, and her attention was diverted at the time. When the little boy went out the first time, she brought him back. But he went out again, and it was after the test that she realised he was missing.

“In the process of searching for him in the school, she saw one of his shoes in the school compound. We thought someone probably carried him because Abideen can’t trek that far. Then we sent messages to everyone in case anyone knew about his whereabouts. We sent messages to all mosques too, but for eight days, we didn’t know anything about his whereabouts.

“Then the Registrar called me. He said I should come along with my in-laws. When we got to the school, I met a policeman and the Registrar. They pointed to the soakaway and said, ‘That is your child.’ A closer look showed that my son’s nose, tongue, and eyes were already missing from his body.”

When contacted, the provost of the college, Aminu Rabiu, said a management meeting would be held soon over the issue.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command has vowed to unravel the circumstances leading to the murder of the child.
