The postponement of the primaries was made known in a letter with reference number YB/SIEC/GEN/VOL, dated September 14, 2023, and signed by the commission’s executive chairman, Dr Mamman Mohammed.

The letter, addressed to all the political parties in the state and titled ‘Reschedule of Party Primaries,’ reads: “I wish to officially notify you that party primaries formally slated for 15th September 2023, are now postponed indefinitely, please.”

DAILY POST earlier reported that the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Yobe State had called on the state electoral umpire to shift the date of the scheduled local government election.

The state chairman of the council, Bala Mohammed, made the call while briefing journalists in Damaturu, the state capital.

“As you are aware, the rainy season came in very late. Now that the rain has intensified, our people are heavily engaged in farming activities. Now is the peak of farming activities in the state, which is unsuitable for any political activity,” Mohammed said.
