DAILY POST reports that Imo has faced severe insecurity in the past three years, leading to non-state actors occupying some areas, kidnappings and loss of several lives and properties.

However, the Labour Party feels it has the capacity to restore normalcy in the State.

LP National Vice Chairman, South-East, Chief Innocent Okeke told DAILY POST on Friday that the Imo electorate would take their destiny in their hands.

He said the party’s candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, was prepared to address unemployment, insecurity and deteriorating infrastructure.

According to him, Senator Achonu has resolved to tackle insecurity in the State by first addressing poverty, unemployment, weak law enforcement, political instability, and inadequate security infrastructure.

He said, “having identified unemployment as one of the major factors responsible for insecurity, Senator Achonu according to Okeke will provide youths access to capital and financial services, skills training and entrepreneurship support.

“Senator Athan Achonu has identified insecurity in Imo State as a major concern and has vowed to give it urgent attention upon assumption into office.

“To effectively tackle insecurity in Imo State, he has identified the root causes. These include poverty, unemployment, weak law enforcement, political instability, and inadequate security infrastructure.

“To solve insecurity in Imo State, Athan would employ a holistic approach to tackling these root causes.

“Poverty, according to him, must be addressed by creating jobs and providing economic opportunities for the youth and ensuring they participate actively in governance.

“Law enforcement under Achonu’s administration would be strengthened by properly equipping the security forces and providing them with adequate training.

“One cannot help but commend Senator Achonu’s emphasis on grassroots engagement and citizen participation. The success of Imo State lies in the collective strength of its people, and Senator Achonu recognizes this crucial aspect.”
