Five people have been reported dead in a fatal accident that occurred in Ikaram-Akoko, in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Sunday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The casualties were recorded in an accident involving an 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus with registration number DKA 256 XY.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Niyi, claimed that the bus lost control when one of its tyres burst while moving at high speed.
Aside from those who died, other passengers reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries.
Rescue efforts were carried out by members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ikare-Akoko unit, police officers from the Oke-Agbe Akoko Division, and people living along the axis.
Injured victims were taken to the emergency ward of the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, while the five dead bodies were deposited in the mortuary.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Ikaram-Akoko, Oba Andrew Momodu, said the community had, on several occasions, approached the Federal Ministry of Works to construct speed breakers around the junction where accidents usually occur.
