The Osun PDP in a statement signed by its Chairman, Sunday Bisi disclosed that the council boss died suddenly on Tuesday.

The party has also declared a 3-day mourning period and suspension of party activities.

Lamenting the sudden passage of Oyekanmi, Bisi described him as a willing and tenacious team player who never got tired of executing tasks placed in his care.

“The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party is saddened to announce the death of the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ede North local government, whose sudden death occurred late on Tuesday, 10th of October 2023.

“The PDP finds it awkward to come to terms with the death of the chairman, who was in his office and was full of life till the wee hours of the day. It was really awkward for us as a family with the party having to submit to the unquestionable will of Almighty Allah, who giveth and taketh.

“Jimoh Oyekanmi without mincing words, was one engine room too many to lose. He was a willing and tenacious team player who never got tired of executing tasks placed in his care.

“While we battle through this rude shock of Alhaji Oyekanmi’s demise, the state working committee of our party, under the leadership of Hon Sunday Bisi hereby suspends all party activities for the next three days with party flags in the state flown at half mast in equal number of days,” the party said.

Mourning the deceased council boss, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke described it as devastating.

Adeleke also stated that the state had been denied the service of a trusted hand in delivering good governance.

According to the governor in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, “Alhaji Jimoh was a politician with a purpose, always prioritizing the good of all above his personal interest in every situation. During the struggle for the enthronement of the Imole government, Alhaji Jimoh showed discipline and unimaginable sacrifices.

“He was a long-time member of the Adeleke political dynasty, but he was much more than that to me. He was loyal to a fault and more reliable, no matter the circumstances.

“His impact on Osun politics, particularly in Ede North, where he was a strong grassroot mobilizer for our great party, the PDP, is hard to miss. Ede town, and the PDP, has lost one of its finest, and I mourn this huge loss of a man who has contributed so much to the society.

“My heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Ede North, the PDP family, and everyone touched by his demise. It is my prayer that Almighty Allah comforts his family and loved ones and gives them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
