In an interview with Arise TV, Kazaure referenced Akpabio’s previous controversial statements about public protests to challenge his credibility. “A man like Senator Akpabio, you hear him say Peter Obi should tackle the matters happening in the Labor Party. Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! She drew a historical parallel to highlight the severity of such rhetoric: “It’s synonymous to how Marie Antoinette said, ‘Let them eat cake.’ And we know how that ended.”
She directed her criticism beyond Akpabio to the broader political leadership, arguing that Nigeria’s democratic survival isn’t attributable to its leaders. “If there’s a democracy thriving in Nigeria, it’s not because of our leaders. I dare say it’s because Nigerians are naturally gradualists and we are the people who are keeping democracy together,” she asserted.
Questioning the motivations behind recent political defections, Kazaure expressed frustration with political opportunism: “We had a recent past governor saying, ‘Oh, the reason we’re defecting is because we want to come closer to the center.’ And in my head, I’m thinking that in the next two weeks, we’re a 26-year-old democracy and we find ourselves still suckling an oil-rich state.”
She concluded by echoing Senator Abaribe’s criticism of performative governance: “Senator Abaribe had to say to them, what do we need a security summit for? We’ve already sat down. We know the issues, the security issues in our constituencies; why are we going to sit down?”
This exchange is the latest development in an ongoing dispute between Obi supporters and Akpabio, which intensified after the Senate President challenged Obi’s claim that democracy no longer exists in Nigeria. During a Senate session, Akpabio accused Obi of misrepresenting the country’s political situation and suggested he should focus on resolving Labour Party issues before pursuing presidential ambitions.
