Alhaji Aliko Dangote, CEO of the Dangote Group and Company, responded to a recent statement by Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), on July 20, 2024, saying that local refineries, including the Dangote refinery, were producing inferior products compared to imports.

Dangote also disclosed that the product initially had a quality rating of approximately 600 to 650 ppm, positioning it among the highest quality products available at that time. Alhaji Aliko Dangote, CEO of the Dangote Group, mentioned, “Our quality ranged from 600 to 650 ppm, ranking it among the top products in terms of quality when we began,” as reported by TheCable.

But right now we’re at 87 parts per million. Please, regulator, come at your earliest convenience—Sunday or Monday—or collect a sample; I promise that our PPM will be lower than 10 by the time he arrives. The speaker asked, “Your Excellency, could we kindly wait to collect samples from two filling stations before we come here?” When we get at the plant, they will also take a sample for analysis.

The findings are in, and I’ll tell you what they are. Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest billionaire, elaborated by saying that a TotalEnergies diesel sample had a sulfur concentration of 1,829 ppm and a Matrix Retail sample 2,653 ppm. He went on to say that he wanted to inform the country’s decent people that today’s parameters were excellent; by next week’s end, they should be at 50 ppm, and by August, they should be down to 10 ppm.
