He made these comments while meeting with six members of the House of Representatives in Abeokuta on August 9, 2024, where they discussed a proposed bill advocating for a single six-year presidential term with power rotation between the North and South.

Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007, questioned the integrity of the nation’s leaders and argued that many of them should be imprisoned.

In response, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the Convener of Arewa Think Tank, agreed with Obasanjo but challenged him to start by investigating his own administration and jailing his cabinet members as an example.

Yakubu highlighted that Obasanjo has frequently made headlines with his speeches, both domestically and internationally, but this recent statement is particularly concerning as it could create discord among past and present leaders.

He emphasized that Obasanjo, who has a military background and served two terms in office, should focus on promoting unity in Nigeria rather than causing divisions.

The ATT also criticized Obasanjo’s administration for failing to address critical issues like the revival of national industries and infrastructure projects, particularly the Sango-Abeokuta expressway, which remains in poor condition despite being near Obasanjo’s residence.

They also pointed out that Obasanjo did not reduce the cost of governance by transitioning to a unicameral legislature.

The ATT questioned why prominent Nigerians like Obasanjo are criticizing the current government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which they believe is working hard to address the country’s challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies, a move that has caused significant economic hardship but was endorsed by other presidential candidates.READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>
