Arsenal Makes a Return for Osimhen as fee splashed

Arsenal is reportedly preparing to make a bid for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following a reduction in Napoli’s asking price. The Premier League club is said to be ready to negotiate with the Italian side after Napoli waived the previously stipulated €120 million release clause in Osimhen’s contract.

Despite receiving lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, the 25-year-old forward has no interest in a move to the region. Napoli is keen on selling Osimhen this summer to focus on acquiring a new striker. However, finalizing a deal has proven to be challenging, although Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis is actively involved in the sale.

In the event of Osimhen’s departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium, Napoli has identified Romelu Lukaku and Artem Dovbyk as potential alternatives, as reported by the Campania newspaper. Manchester United is also reportedly interested in Osimhen and may consider a player-plus-cash deal involving Rasmus Hojlund, who joined the club last season.

Despite his crucial role in Napoli’s recent successes, including their Scudetto-winning campaign in 2022/23, the club is prepared to cash in on Osimhen. The initial release clause of €120-130 million has been a deterrent for potential buyers, leading Napoli to lower their asking price to €100 million.

While clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Osimhen, no official bids have been made so far. Last summer, Napoli rejected an offer exceeding €200 million from a Saudi Arabian club.

Osimhen, who was signed from Lille in 2020 for around €75 million, has established himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in European football, attracting interest from top clubs during this summer’s transfer window.
