The young midfielder had to be subbed off in the eighth minute of the game, with the player failing to hold back tears after returning to the bench.

While the extent of Pedri’s injury is yet to be known, reports suggest the player could be out for a period of up to six weeks.

UEFA’s compensation to Barcelona
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, this injury triggers UEFA’s club protection program, which will compensate Barcelona for Pedri’s absence.

According to UEFA’s Club Protection Program, if a player’s injury exceeds 28 consecutive days, the club is entitled to financial compensation based on the player’s fixed salary.

This initiative, in effect since the 2024 World Cup, aims to mitigate the financial impact on clubs whose players suffer injuries during official competitions.

The compensation covers a maximum daily indemnity of €20,548, with a total cap of €7,500,000 per player per incident. Clubs are eligible to claim this compensation starting from the 29th day of the player’s continuous absence due to injury.

For FC Barcelona, assuming Pedri’s injury extends beyond this period, the club can initiate the claim process from August 2, marking the completion of the required 28-day threshold.

While the financial assist from UEFA will certainly help Barcelona, it can never compensate for the loss of Pedri, whose injury could take an even bigger toll on the midfielder’s mental state.

It is, therefore, imperative for Barcelona to take a cautious approach during Pedri’s recovery process and assist him with everything so that the youngster can return to action full of confidence.
