An AFP journalist in Tehran reported hearing multiple explosions as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the strikes were a direct response to continuous aggression from the Iranian regime. “In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel, the IDF is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” the military stated.

This operation comes in the wake of a missile barrage launched by Iran on October 1, following which Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had pledged a “deadly, precise and surprising” retaliation. According to Al Jazeera, the backdrop to these heightened tensions includes the deadliest attack in Israel’s history on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,206 individuals, primarily civilians. This tragic incident has since reshaped Israel’s military strategy, leading to expanded operations against Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon to secure its northern border.

Military spokesperson Daniel Hagari urged Israeli citizens to remain “alert and vigilant” in light of the escalating situation, indicating that further retaliatory actions could follow.
