According to News report, Amaechi had contested the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary but came second, securing 315 votes against Tinubu’s 1,271. Despite the defeat, Ndume said Amaechi contributed to Tinubu’s eventual victory by supporting his presidential campaign. He noted that Amaechi was actively involved in the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), showing loyalty even after the primaries.

Ndume disclosed that following the election, President Tinubu reached out to both him and Amaechi, expressing a desire for collaboration. A meeting was scheduled to take place after Ndume’s return from Hajj, where discussions about working together were to be finalized.
