Recall that the US President had previously threatened 100 percent tariffs on BRICS nations—a bloc including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—if they create a rival to the US dollar.
He doubled down on the matter on Thursday night.
“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
However, Garba claimed that Trump’s plan to impose tariffs for trading against the dollar will further isolate the United States.
“President Trump’s tantrums against the BRICS currency is a waste of time. His planned action to impose tariffs for trading against the dollar will further isolate the United States.
“This is not the U.S. of the 1940s; this is 2025. The world has moved far beyond a unipolar society,” Garba posted on X.
