In a video recently shared by TVC, Wike said the Federal High Court ruled against Fubara’s initial budget presentation to a faction of only four lawmakers, declaring it unconstitutional. According to Wike, the court found it unacceptable that only four out of the 32 assembly members were involved in passing the budget, stating that this undermines democratic processes

Wike mentioned that the Appeal Court supported the Federal High Court judgment, reinforcing that decisions of such importance require the involvement of the full assembly. He said the Appeal Court stated that allowing 4 members to pass a budget was a “joke taken too far” and could weaken democratic practices in Nigeria if left unaddressed

In Wike’s exact words: “The court said we are in a constitutional democracy, you want us to sit and watch you use 3 or 4 people to pass a budget for you in a constitutional democracy of 32 seats? The court said even when this matter was before us and we gave judgment that no, you don’t do this. We said don’t do this but you went ahead with four people. There were four, one has reduced so they are now 3. Tomorrow it can be 2 and the next day it can be one. The court said no, you don’t do that. And you went on appeal to the court of appeal, the court of appeal affirmed the judgment of the federal High Court.
